Can Work-Life Balance Comes with Financial Success?

Disclaimer: It is a product of my long-time question

I need to say it explicitly, I love my job. It’s my dream to have a work in finance industry especially capital market. I have work in this sector since graduated from university.

In my second year in this sector, I experienced a lot of opportunity to learn and think out of the box. The pay is also good. But those all come into one trade off: I have little to no time for myself.

Human has to work to earn money. Those money are used to fulfill our needs and wants. That’s natural. But, I don’t think we should pour 100% of our time to it.

I am an employee, and I am obliged to be ready during office hour no matter what. But, after office hour, claiming for overtime is my right. That’s how ideal system works. But, for some of us, that system is such a luxury beyond our reach.

I work in a company that treat all of the employee well. We are provided by basic and addon insurance. We have retirement plan. I also can claim my overtime work without any hassle.

I am just lucky by the way. Not all employees has those benefits since it depends solely on the company itself. So, some of us is just working hard just for a salary with little to no other benefit.

I am just lucky to have my work-life balance as well as generous pay. But for many of us, it is just like a dream.

The question then is how could I get that? Is it because I am in the relatively mature industry?

I think so. Financial industry, such as banking and capital market has been around for years. Climbing the corporate ladder is difficult since there too many people competing for the same place. Compare it to tech, this industry is far from mature so there are plenty of opportunity to be taken.

People working in tech is just like a superstar. They are famous, rich and success. In tech, success and rich in the young age is a normal thing. I am very envy with that. But, in return, you will lose some of your work-life balance.

You surely can be success by working hard. But, keep it mind that success comes with some trade-off. Can you tolerate that?

If that so, go head. If it isn’t, it is just alright.
